Assessment and Investigation Services

In accordance with the State of Ohio guidelines, Muskingum County Adult and Child Protective Services investigates and assesses the reported allegations of abused, neglected, and dependent/abandoned children. Mandated reporters are required by state law to report child abuse and/or neglect as referenced through the Ohio Revised Code 2151.421. Some examples of Mandated Reporters include: attorneys, medical/health care professionals, school/daycare personnel, and social workers.

The name of any individual reporting abuse and neglect is confidential and cannot be released without the reporter's permission or under direct order from the court. Although anonymous reports are accepted, reporters are encouraged to give their names so that additional or clarifying information can be gathered if necessary. Muskingum County Adult and Child Protective Services investigates between 800-900 cases of abuse and neglect of children each year.
